Do I need any experience?
No. Most people who walk in have never trained before. Every class takes beginners, and the coach will look after you.
Is the first class free?
Yes. Your first class is free, for kids and adults. Message us on Facebook or call 0418 436 613 to book in.
What should I wear?
Comfortable sports clothes with no zips or pockets. For No Gi, shorts or leggings and a rash guard or fitted shirt. For Gi classes, wear a Gi if you have one. If you don't, start with a No Gi class on Monday, Tuesday or Saturday. Bring a mouth guard and a drink bottle, keep your nails short and wear thongs or slides off the mats.
What age can my child start?
From age 6. Kids classes are No Gi, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:15pm to 6:00pm.
Do I need to be fit?
No. Fitness is what training builds, not what it demands up front. Tell the coach before class and the session will be scaled for you. If you are coming back from an injury, get clearance from your doctor first.
Am I too old to start?
No. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is built on leverage and position, not size and strength, and you set your own pace.
What is the difference between Gi and No Gi?
The Gi is the traditional uniform. You can grip sleeves and collars, which slows the game down and rewards precise technique. No Gi is trained in shorts and a rash guard, with nothing to grip, so it moves faster. Most people end up training both.
Do I have to compete?
No. Competing is optional. Most members train for fitness, confidence and the crew. The competition team is there for those who want it.
When are classes on?
Kids: Tuesday and Thursday, 5:15pm to 6:00pm. Adults: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00pm to 7:00pm, and Saturday, 8:00am to 9:00am. We are closed on public holidays.
How much does it cost?
Adults: $15 casual, $60 for a 5 class card, $30 a week for a membership, or $300 every 3 months. Kids: $10 casual, $10 a week for one class a week, or $15 a week for two classes a week.
Who is the coach?
Instinct was founded by head coach Benjamin Gardner, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt. The club is an affiliate of Born To Roll.
I don't live in Renmark. Is it worth the drive?
Plenty of members think so. People train with us from around the Riverland, some from as far as Loxton.
Where are you?
41 Renmark Ave, Renmark SA 5341. The entrance is from Lawton Lane.
Is there parking?
Yes. Car parking is off Leslie Lane, and the entrance is from Lawton Lane.
